Today I got a clean exit from Wipro but it wasn't so easy for me to get this.

For those who dont know about Wipro Technologies, it is an India based MNC and has more than 50,000 employees working for it. It is the top 3 MNC in India. The day I joined Wipro 4.5 years back I was so happy because I got a job in a big company in India. Then in 6 months I got chance to go to abroad on a short term project. Its a different story that they sent me to work on a tool that I have never heard of and my manager expected me to learn and deploy application in 3 months, which was short but somehow I managed. I took it like a learning curve and I was happy. Sooner I received H1 from Wipro, which made me more happy (you can understand, a dream come true).

I was always honest to wipro and I was happy with whatever I was getting. Well the whole honesty started getting fade after spending 2 years with Wipro at Onsite (USA). You must be thinking that its natural, because I must have wanted GC or something like that .... well I would say that it could your perception but seriously I just felt that its not worth to work under a manager who either thinks that we (other team members as well) are stupid or its written somewhere that we are stupid and he thinks he is smartest guy...... Otherwise tell me who wants to change a job when his wife is 8 months pregnant and who wants to drive her 18 hours and in this situation who wants to be out of Medical Insurance for 5 days? well I'm not saying all these because I want to prove something, but I'm telling because its not money that drove to it was something else ...Work culture and attitude of managers.

Lets talk about Work culture:

Before working with Wipro I was working with small organizations and believe me every single day I missed that open environment in Wipro. In Wipro 85% managers are those who spent 10-15 years in wipro and most of them are rude and always in bossing attitude. In India Wipro policy says that you need to serve 10 hrs a day if you fail to do so manager gets alert and so you are. Also if your manager is in the office he expects you to be in office too. I mean if you are leaving office at 6pm and manager is sitting he may ask you "you are leaving so early today?". Well if these bosses come to US they try to create similar environment in US too. They ask people to work day and night. They'll always say that "client wants it today, do it any how", if you did a small mistake they'll make you realize that how big the mistake you have done and client will get angry...bla..bla..bla. Those who have worked with Americans they know it very well that these guys never put pressure on. If you say that I don't know and I need time to learn and fix this issue the understand it and give you the time. Its our manager who makes it worse. I know it depends on person to person and I got chance to work with one of the nice manager in Wipro who is really good in terms of work and culture, I've seen him giving opportunities to the people and explore their strength but as I said people like this in Wipro are very less.

Separation:

Separation is a big time pain in Wipro. If you are Wiproite and you have got any chance to talk to an HR about separation then you must be knowing what I'm trying to say. HRs are very rude and they reply you only iff you CC to their supervisor, if you did not then don't expect any reply from them. Well as soon as you ask HR about separation that too when you are at onsite, they'll make your life mess. If you ask any "Why?" then they try to show that Wipro has done some kind of compassion ("Ehsaan") on you by sending onsite and if you leave them than it means you are dishonest with Wipro and wipro will have bigg loss because of you and you'll have to fulfill this loss. So I would like to tell these HRs that an employee got paid to do work and Wipro got paid to send them onsite. Just take an example in US, Wipro charges minimum $65/hour (for developers it goes as higher as $120 for Architects and senior consultants) for you to the client and that becomes almost $12000 - $15000 per month for them but they pay you $4000-$5000 per month. Also if you have been to Wipro you must have seen a concept called QPLC which is a bullshit according to me, if you are not billable or company is not performing well in either case you loose your money. And you know what, company keeps you QPLC money for 3 months on the higher interest rate and gets more benefit by investing it but you are loosing your money. Second when they say Bonus … well again a bullshit .. because that they say it is the part of your annual salary, it means if your salary is $60000/year and your bonus is $2000 then they will pay you $58,000 and $2000 is you bonus which will be paid next year so they’ll earn interest on your bonus too. Well this is just one part of the story.

Lets talk about separation. You know what I feel when you get a job in Wipro/TCS/Infy then it means you are going in a Jail where you are not the one who decides when to leave, its company who decided whether they should release you or not. When you join Wipro (I’m talking more about wipro because I don't have experience with TCS/Infy and I have this recent experience with Wipro only) they ask you 2 months/3 month notice period. Now in the policy its written clearly that company can fire anybody with 15days-1 months notice without any reason, also during your notice period Wipro can fire you at any time. Well for me and for others who think similar to me, Wipro has two way policy where Wipro will fire you if it doesnt like you or your work but if you don't like Wipro (or manager) or Wipro's work culture you can’t get out of it whenever you want., you need to work under presure and they’ll (Managers) torture you mentally.

I give you an example how they torture you based on my personal experience. When I gave notice to my manager it was for one month. Now in one month he asked me to finish work which is worth of 4 months, which is next to impossible. He said that I should have told him my intention of leaving 2 months back so that he can search someone to replace me. Tell me does anyone give notice even before you get the actual offer letter? sounds stupid, isn't it? The day I was leaving he was expecting me to complete a document, even though he knows that I'm leaving and doing apartment cleanup and even when I was driving to the new place ( which was 18 hrs away from my place) he called me and asked me to complete it.........Other thing that tortured me is the Knowledge Transfer.....you know where ever I was before Wipro they had a policy that once they got notice they tried to get somebody within a week so that KT should start and it should end smoothly. But here for for three weeks I did not hear anything about KT and at the end I blast that I could not stay more than 4 weeks they arranged somebody in last week and were expecting me to transfer my 7 months of worth knowledge to the new guy....I had done so many good things for the project and performed more than the client's expectations but the day I was leaving my manager who sits next to me he didn't even say "Good Bye, best of luck ...etc" which turned me off and I felt really bad about this lower standard culture.

Notice period:

This is one of the step mother policy in Wipro for those who come onsite from offshore, you have to serve 2 months notice if not then pay $10000 for LD….but those who are recruited in USA they need to serve 2 weeks of notice and there is no LD…..isn’t it funny? When you talk to HR they say that you have done liquidity damage, you have gained so much of knowledge and you can not go like this. Tell me what about a guy who is recruited at onsite, if he is in a project since beginning and he leaves with 2 weeks notice then wont it be a Liquidity Damage?? Well now go with the HR way and lets assume those who come to onsite and leave Wipro are dishonest because wipro has spent too much on you but what about serving 2-3 year at onsite in Wipro and giving wonderful projects to wipro and give Wipro a profit in Millions….even if a guy did such a wonderful job in Wipro he wants to leave he’ll have to go through with all this bullshits and then it hurts because even after giving all these to Wipro, Wipro gives back what?? mental tension at the end.

Believe me it all my real experience and I had a big time fight to get a clean exit with the 4 weeks of notice instead of 2 months and during this time Wipro simply forgot that they won 3 projects with my presentation during my stay in US....... Its sad and it hurts me allot

  1. Hi,

I am a wiproite, and has been with Wipro for more than 5 years.
At present I am working at onsite USA.

As per policy, If I want to resign I should pay 10000$ and 2 months notice?

I planning to resign Wipro. Could you suggest How to handle this situation?

How you handled this with one month notice?

  2. Hi,
I have worked in Wipro for 3 years and to tell you whatever you have said is very correct.
To add to that wipro's pay structure is the worst of all the indian companies and their employee assessment is the worst of its kind.
your career will be out of control once you join this F%^k company.
people should avoid to join this company

  3. Hi Raja,

It was a bigg fight with the HR and my supervisor and there is a loophole in the policy that not everybody know. If you have given transition (regardless of days) and the guy who is taking transition tells you in written that he is comfortable and he doesn't need your help anymore and project doesn't suffer, you can exit wipro in 1-2 weeks. Well even though if the transition is not done properly you can leave Wipro and ignore their $10000 ... they'll never come after you because they know its illegal in US and if they do so and drag you in court they'll loose more than $10000 .... so dont worry ... the only good thing with clean exit is you get Experience letter easily which helps in GC.

BUT you can get a signed Experience letter from your any of the old supervisor , that also works for GC ... so in any way you are good. I learnt all these things after coming out of Wipro.

Anybody who wants to leave Wipro, just leave ... dont believe their threatening emails .. .enjoy

  4. Thanks for sharing your experince, thought to join wipro, now i erase this from my mind, thanks a lot buddy.

  5. well its just only a case of wipro, you can have such experience with any of the big company. I'm enjoying the small company because your GM knows you your HR knows you and everybody is connected. When I was with wipro, if I used to ask 1 question to HR she never replied until I cc it to her supervisor ...... well if you surf web you'll find N number of bad words about Wipro

  6. I am on H1. My project ends on date x. and i have not committed to any futureassignments. So if i resign after fulfilling current commitment, what reason could wipro give for not giving me a clean chit? Also is it wise to resign in india or in US. I plan to travel after last date of my project and get the new VISA stamped. If I wait till new stamping, then i wont be able to serve more tan 2 weeks notice period. But I am not jeopardising anyone as I fulfilled my commitment and adjusted 3 times for unexected extensions even when i did not want to. Also are the legal implications different if I resign in India vs. resign in US.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Well if your project ends on date x then TECHNICALLY you have no liabilities but Wipro HR can give any bullshit reason while leaving. Also, it doesn't matter for them whether you had any any unwanted extensions, they'll talk only for the recent activity that is "you are leaving with short notice".

It doesn't matter if you leave in India or US, they cant do anything but they'll scare you by all sort of way. But if you leave in US, you can assure yourself that they cant do anything silly because here you have rights to sue and USCIS to complain against them and unlike India actions are pretty quick in US. I don't know the status of your H1, but if you have new H1 extension from Wipro and no other company filed for your extension then you can't jump Wipro revokes the H1 immediately. In that situation its wise decision to leave in India and if you have new petition in your hand then just jump and don't care about Wipro

  8. Thank anant.. i m still in 2nd year of my H1 and the new company is going to file for the transfer soon. I will have the documents by the time i return to india. I was preferring to quit in india after i got the new h1 stamped. Do you think that it s a feasible and safer option . what if have to travel back to my new employer immediately after stamping and hence cannot give a notice of more than a week to wipro. What would be my worst case scenario. Ca they sue me for breach of contarct and would Indian courts honour that?

    ReplyDelete
  9. First of all, check with new employer if the H1 transfer will have any issue while you are in India because what I know is you need to be in US while transfer takes place (BUT I'm NOT SURE)? second, did you sign any legal document or contract before or after coming to India from US. As far as I know, Wipro have no authority to stop you leaving the company, if they go court in India or US they'll loose because there is no such thing Liquidity Damage exist in the real world you didn't do anything for free you got paid for what you did and so they are. And by leaving the company you are not committing any crime its your basic human right of work freely .... it applies to all countries. If Wipro has to layoff somebody they'll do it in short notice.

Long story short, dont be scared, They know very well they can't win the case and they'll loose more than what they are asking from you. So they'll never come after you. The only thing they can do is, you wont get the reliving letter/experience letter.

For proof, the dates you worked in US its good to log in to Ted Web 2 days before and take a print of "Proof of Employment" and you can use it as your last date in wipro. Also keep your last two salary slips. Thats it ... you are all set.

  10. A recruiter called me about wipro and I was thinking about joining. I do have some questions. What is this onsite work If your not onsite doing work are you at the office just sitting or training. I'm applying for the network engineer position in the US.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I have an technica interview with wipro for network engineer. anyone know what to expect?????

    ReplyDelete
  12. When you are on bench, and you are in bangalore you'll be reporting in MG Road office which has a very bad condition and old PCs. For training, your manager needs to approve. Wipro dont spend single Rs in training, it is conducted by the people who are the wipro employee some time they also dont have much experience in that and can not answer your questions .... dont join WIPRO its not worth

    ReplyDelete
  13. I agree... Wipro will never train you... to them training is the KT which you get on how to do something that you will anyways find out how to do... they don't invest in employee skills development... Maybe it's becasue they think that employees will quit after they get trained...

  15. Hi ananth
i recently got placed in wipro on campus placements...
acoording to your experience after reading,i have bad idea on wipro..
i did speclization in embedded systems(m.tech, fresher),whether will wipro offer me in that area or any other area....
give me a suggetion that whether i take this job or leave it...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi Buddy,

First of all congratulation for your first job :) I wish you should get good projects.

Well wipro has various business units, now with the freshers they generally dont ask what they want its something what wipro want. If you are not in any horizontal that deals with Embedded than you wont get any project on that but you can contact your practice head and let him know what you are comfortable with. First of all you need to know whether you are in Horizontal or Vertical..

  17. I have joined my client after resigning from Wipro. I was not given my experience letter and relieving letter. they are asking for 4.2 lac Rupees. I don't think it fair to pay that amount to them. they dint do charity by sending me onsite. they made huge money on me. all my colleagues who were in same project were US hires and did not have to serve more than 2 weeks notice nor pay the hefty sum. Did wipro not sponsor their H1. then why people coming from India are made to suffer. Why does Indian government not protect the basic right of the citizens like US does. if these big companies can fire you anytime, why cant you fire them as employer? i want to get my hard earned letters . Is there any legal clause that I could use to get justice from the Indian government or it is that people like us will be crushed by these corporate bullies.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well dear, there is no such thing exist where Indian Govt can help you out. Well there is a way in US where you can sue Wipro or the best way is first talk to HR and if she says "NO" tell her that you'll go to USCIS and take legal action. Wipro knows they'll loose more than $10000 if they run behind you, its just something they want to scare you but you can scare them too by telling you can take legal actions and you fight for 1-2 months and they'll give all letters to you.

  19. Thanks a lot Anant for sharing this...
I was googling about "quit wipro at onsite" and read like 10 post and your's post is the most valuable.. I am also onsite from wipro and have offer from a US based consulting firm. I am really stressed about sepration from Wipro :(
    would like to know following

    1. Letter from tedweb works for GC?
    2. Will letter from collougues also work for GC?

    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi Buddy,

Take a print out of Verification of Employment letter from the tedweb, and remember to take it 3-4 days prior to leave because they generally block your tedweb while the process of separation. Its good to keep for your reference.

For GC, this letter wont work because they need the experience letter that you dont need on the company letter-head, there is the format that your attorney can provide and try to get it signed by your supervisor (if you dont have good relation with current then try to get it from previous) but if you don't have such supervisor then you can get it signed from your colleague who have worked with you and in the GC process USCIS needs the current contact info and company of your colleague/supervisor.

And, dont give $10000 or any thing in Rs. to Wipro while leaving as Liquidity Damage, they cant do anything to you. In-fact you you can file a case for employee harassment.
    Regards,
    Anant

  24. Hi Naveen,

First of all .... if you are on probation then I dont understand why Wipro is asking for 4.7 lakh while leaving, because what I remember is in my offer letter it was written that Wipro can lay off or I can leave Wipro in a short notice while I'm on probation. Well seems like something is changed in last 1-2 year.

But Still, no need to pay for that amount. The only thing that they might not give you is Experience Letter and as you mentioned you are US citizen then you dont need to worry about any letter from Wipro because here its required mostly for GC and if you join any US company they hardly ask to submit any experience letter. They might need the reference and I'm sure you can get that easily.

Also they might cut some bullshit amount from your last salary so if you have to go through from such pains even after giving 1 month notice then better you give them 1 week notice and forget about the 1 weeks salary and join the other company.

Believe me Naveen, after leaving Wipro and more and more people responding to my blog, I feel its not just me, every Wipro employee is going through one or the other pain and in Wipro no policy goes in favor of Employee it all makes money to Mr. Ajim Premji....

I am a long serving Wipro employee and am being posted onsite recently.
As per my experience with Wipro goes,it is more pathetic than in offshore, which is by the way,is the worst.

I would like to know whether Wipro can withhold my PF an gratuity amount back in India by my leaving the company in short notice ans without paying Rs420000.

    Thanks!!!

  27. Hi King,

Gratuity and PF is something that they can never put a hold on, if they do you can file a case against them .... by law (in india) its illegal.

  28. I already completed 5 yrs with wipro, and now i am planning to quit wipro with 2 weeks notice period at onsite. I don't have good relation with Manager, you very well know why... If i pay 10,000$, will wipro will give me experience letter and relieving letter and alllow me to leave wipro within 2 weeks.

    Rahul..

  29. Hi Rahul,

First of all after spending 5 years in wipro do you think itsr worth of paying $10000? Isn't it your hard earned money?in 5 years you have alreadry earned multiple of $10000 for wipro..... its really up to you.

Wipro will surly provide exp letter after paying $10000. But if you need this for the sake of GC then I would say dont pay because you can use a letter signed by co-worker or any supervisor. According to me paying this amount is non-sense.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Anant,

I'm at onsite and planning to quit Wipro. However, they are telling me that they need 2 months notice to relieve me. I have a new manager who doesn't know things at Wipro and Delivery manager is not so helpful.
If I quit the company after giving 2 weeks notice and they don't agree to release me, will there be any action taken by Wipro?
Since Wipro would have my SSN #, contact details, will they cause any harm/take legal action against me?
I have read your comments above but still expect your response.

    Thank you

  32. Hi,

First thing is they can't take any legal action on you because you are leaving Wipro. US is a free country and everyone has right to move to the job they like .... you are not slave to the company.

As I mentioned in my post, they wont release your Experience Letter or they might send you a mail that you did Liquidity Damage and you have to pay $10000 (which is bullshit). I know its pain and gives alot of fear but believe me its never gonna happen. For GC you dont need experience letter from your company you can have it signed by your colleague.

If you dont want to go through all such pain and want clean exit, give KT to someone and ask him to write an official email that he is good now and he doesn't need you anymore for support, then take this to HR and your Manager ... they have to release you legally now, because after giving KT there is no sense for them to ask you stay. The whole idea of 2 months notice is KT ...

  34. Good Blog, got offer today from Wipro and I am not going to join. I work for a decent Mid-level company in USA and even my client CIO come sits next to me and talks to me, I know Indian Companies work culture caz i worked in L&T Infotech earlier, may be I forgot that experience and wanted to join Wipro - no ways - your blog helped me to remember all my past ;-)

    Thanks,

  35. Hi Parveen,

Its really up to you if you want to pay $10000 as LD (which is for me a very very big amount). But as for your question YES, they will give you clean exit along with the experience letter if you pay them $10000.

But again, just think about it twice because it takes 5-6 months to save $10000 and if its really worth to give them back your hard earned money, it means you worked for Wipro for free for few months.

    Its really up to you

  36. Hi Guys...got an offer with Wipro onsite, they are promising GC within 6 months...(may be bcos this is a pressing requirement)...do the management stand by thier words?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm the Ex-Wiproit and I would say that in some cases they do but most of the time they dont. And be careful because Wipro/Infy & TCS are so smart when they make promises, if they are doing your GC then they may hold your neck with something (something hidden), especially wipro is a kinda company that will make sure (100%) that they should get it back the Dollars that they spent on you along with the high interest. I hope you understand what I mean

  38. Do we need to pay $10000 or 4.2 lacs if we are ready to serve notice period & close all tasks in had as agreed with supervisor? plz advice.. , Is there any way i can get my exp letter without paying LD but with servicing full notice period

  39. Yes wipo is totally master slave kinda company here most of managers dont plan their work and last day they come and say do it today anyhw. In actual,Mangers here havenot got those their postions because of talent but because of "bhaichara".

  43. Anant - Could you please share the 'trick' how you managed to get the clean exit, without paying $10000? Just by forwarding your replacement's confirmation email that he doesn't need your support anymore?

  44. Well, when I gave notice the first thing I asked my manager to bring someone on board to start KT, I handed over all the documents and taught him everything what I knew and asked him to do by himself without my help once. then I asked him to give me in written that he is able to perform all operation by himself he doesn't need me at all.

Then forwarded this mail to my manager + HR + my manager's supervisor

Then argued them to give me one simple reason to stay longer in the company, because whatever I knew is already transferred to the other guy and the project is in safe hand nothing is gonna suffer because of me, and I said if still they want me to keep for extended period of time then they need to give me solid reason to not go against them. Well long story short, my manager's supervisor who used to know me very well was agree with my actions and argument and asked him to release me.

  47. Ananat,

Thanks man for this blog. I'm working with Wipro since last 7 years & last 4.5 Years at onsite. 2 years back I received L1 to H1 conversion & received. H1 deputation letter just talks about salary. But when I came on L1 I signed the contract of 2 month notice period & $10,000 LD. Now I've resigned & my manager is asking for 2 months notice period. I'm working as a consultant & no Wipro team is involved in the project, but manager wants to me work for 2 more month otherwise Wipro will loose billing. Can you help me on how to handle this.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Buddy,

Its been 3 years I left wipro and because of this blog I received so many comments and got to know that Wipro is not changed at all.... and I can understand your pain. Well frankly speaking it all depends case to case, if you have very good relation with your horizontal manager then approach him and ask him to provide someone for KT and as I mentioned earlier, if you leave Wipro they'll find your replacement soon the manager just dont want to do that. Second, if you can take that risk, just leave them ..... they can't do anything to you in US. You didn't commit a crime by leaving them and what they are asking you have given more than that in last 3 year because they bill to client like $160-200/hour.

One of my friend left Wipro in just one week notice and didn't ask for anything, just said do whatever you can do. Its been 5 years Wipro did nothing to him but after 2 years he got his experience letter by contacting old manager.

So just dont worry, you have options and it all depends how you want to handle it. but in any ways Wipro can't do anything to you.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Bloggers and Commentors,

The folks in Wipro invent ways to make you miserable. I worked with them for close to 6 years. After exploring various options for an year (including going back offshore, which no one agreed to) I resigned. I negotiated with my new employer and gave a 2 month notice. No one in Wipro HR even initiates my exits, 2 months after my resignation and 3 weeks after I actually stopped working for then. I followed up with to initiate the process and now am asked to pay 4.2 lakhs. When I said I had given full 2 months notice I am told this is in addition to that. So, here is the expectation : Give 2 months notice or pay $ 10,000. Quit Wipro, but go offshore and work for 6 months or pay Rs 420,000. What twisted logic is this?

I refused to get cowed down. I have asked them to reply to my email in a week or meet me in an arbitration court. Let's see what happens. I will post my experiences here, so y'all could use them

  52. Wipro HR is very rude. My line managers & horizontal technical manager are ready to relive me and told to waive the bond amount, but HR says no waiver. Now I've no other options to go without relieving letter and leave the total amount of $7500 coming from my payment and onsite leaves. Can one suggest on how to I can get at least payment amount.

  53. no company in india can block your PF, go to the consumer court and file a case against them.

  54. Wipro is not allowed to deduct your payroll money in the lieu of Service agreement or bond.

Wipro will pay all payroll money ( till your last working day / till you worked for company) and leaves money. No doubt in that

    Here my case

After working 3.5 years with Wipro, they sent me to US on H1. I left wipro within US after working 11 months. Money is not only the factor to quit, my career was moving no where

Served complete two month notice period.Relieving process triggered and got all no dues on time. As usual they sent request letter to pay remaining 4 months equivalent of Rs.4,20,000 by mentioning that I singed service agreement on perticular date ( Actually there is no deputation letter generated on that date what they mentioned in letter)

Mails are exchanging.....I dont know the end results.

I would like to complain to concern authority in US if it did not worked out.

Please suggest me how can I take it forward legally in US

1)To whom I have to complain.
2)Need to hire Attorney to complain or can we do ourselves?

  57. Has anybody successfully received their PF money back from Wipro though the $10000 is not paid? I know it is not legal to hold PF. But things work differently in India. Do we need to fight hard to get PF?

My case: I served 2 months notice onsite. but still they did not waive bond. But they prorated the bond money and asking $6500. No experience/ relieving letter.

When i ask for PF, they are saying they need final settlement to release PF.

    Any thoughts?

  58. how much do you have to pay if you are in Wipro, india and do not wish to serve notice period?? (arathiv10@gmail.com)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Guys, In India as well no company can hold your PF its your money and they have to give it to you. The only thing will happen is you'll have to pay penalty .... but what I remember that Wipro dont use GOVT's PF account its their own PF account system .... I thinks its really worst because in normal PF account you get high interest rate but with Wipro you dont.

  60. Hi,
I am working in one of the top 3 MNCs and have an offer from Wipro for SSE role. They have given me a good hike and preferred location and promised me a good work too. I am confused now reading all these comments. Wondering what to do now as I already informed by manager about my resignation plans.

    Please help.

    ReplyDelete
  61. For who is joining as SSE

Please note that all these comments are written by those who quit company at onsite ( mostly at USA)

Wipro is good to get quick onsite opportunity and some times challenging work where you can learn new things.

No doubt , some problems are there with project managers.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Well, For who is joining as SSE, need to mention one more thing is that, in wipro, project is more important than health and family. You need to be prepare for that because managers are rude (mostly) and they dont accept any health or family reason to take leave if the project is running. In my project there was a girl who was pregnant and they gave her leave on the last 2 weeks before her delivery and expect her to be on the project back in 1 month after delivery. There was one more friend of mine who wanted 10 days of leave because his wife has the due delivery date but he did not get the leave more than 2 days. I think the managers are f***ing in wipro. And yes you'll have challenging projects in wipro, it means your in-time will be fixed 8:30 am but out-time can be 9:30pm/10:30pm/11:30pm ... or even more late.

    ReplyDelete

  66. this blog is awsome, I followed the trick by giving KT to one guy and asked him to write me an email and cc to my manager by saying that he can work without my support and I left wipro with just 3 weeks notice and got the experience letter

    ReplyDelete
  67. It is not a trick but your luck.Relieving and bond waiver soley depends on horizental head.

In my case. I have given 2 month notice, got resignation acceptance mail, got all no dues in mywipro , still they are harassing me

    ReplyDelete
  68. I have not signed any bond when I travelled in 2008. I'm planning to resign now while in onsite. Can they still ask me to pay $10K?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I had been working with Wipro for 8 months now. I found the work culture too bad that I have resigned now. I am so frustrated that I have even sacrificed my bonus money for 54K that is due after 4 months. I would strongly recommend experienced people, specially the ones coming from good companies, NEVER to join Wipro. Its NOT a place for the experienced people. I had very bad experiences here, there is no professionalism, no respect for indiviual (although their slogan says so). They promise you X figure of salary and when you see your salary slip, it becomes X*3/4 and at times even X/2.
You can not easily make out where are they cutting salary. And they give no increments.
Even if they give, so called MSI, its just 3-5% of your gross.

  70. hi.. I am Ravi..I have served wipro for 3.5 yrs in offshore and then came to onsite . I have now completed 6 yrs and i gave my resignation to wipro. I am now asked to serve a notice period of 2 months and to pay 4.2 lac as i have not served 6 months in offshore. How can i deal with this . I need relieving letter and exp letter from them. As you said if i say them i can proceed legally on them will it be valid as i signed by DL in offshore?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Ravi, You can happily leave Wipro..I undergone similar separation headache with Wipro... Please read email below:

    2) In the Onsite deputation letter at Section 13, It was mentioned as Payment of USD 10,000/- (i.e. Ten Thousand USD Only) towards the Short Notice Period and LD Amount together? Already, Wipro had deducted my Short Notice Period Amount in my No Dues section. Considering this in to account, What is the remaining amount should I need to pay towards my LD Clause Now?

Notice period recover is towards the short notice served and its not against LD amount. LD amount has not been recovered as mentioned in your letter as the onsite bond clause superseeds the LD clause.

    3) As per Wipro Benefit Plan (WBP), Towards the Furniture Benefit Plan, "One Lakh Eighty Two Thousand Rupees only" (i.e. Rs. 1,82,000/-) got deducted from all my Monthly salaries and was withheld by Wipro. Will I get my money back ,with my gracefull exit from Wipro?

You are not entitled for WBP when you are at onsite. Only basic salary and special allowance is paid when you are at onsite.

    4) Please, consider and allow me to pay the LD clause amount with installment basis as currently I am in financial crisis here and staying with Dependent. I appreciate and always Thankfull, If you consider & allow me to pay the applicable amount towards LD clause for 18 months installment basis. Please, do the favor here.

We cannot accept to the above request. You need to pay the entire amount due to the company.

    5) I didn't get 2 months notice in advance towards my onsite assignment completion from my leads from Wipro here at Onsite and so, I didn't get ample time to give 2 months notice to my Wipro lead here at Onsite. Because of my personal problems, I have to continue my US stay and I had also requested to extend my job tenure in Onsite with My Wipro managers in Any of the Wipro's Client place accross US geo till My H1B visa tenure expires. I had followed all my reliveing procedures at the Clients Place successfully and Returned "Wipro Laptop" and other required relieving steps with Wipro successfully. Will you please, consider reducing the amount towards my LD clause?

The onsite bond clause very clearly mentions that you need to return to India and can quit only after serving 6 months at off-shore. Hence your statement is not valid.

    6) When will I expect my Relieving Letter and Experience Letter from Wipro? Will I request for some Provisional Relieving and Experience Letters before I make my LD Clause amount?

Releiving letter will be issued only after you settle the dues with the company. Experience letter is not issued as your exit is unclean. Your exit is termed as unclean since you have not breached the bond commitment.

    7) Please, let me know the procedure to apply for My Provident Fund amount and What is the current available amount towards my PF account? I would like to give the complete Authorisation Letter to company to take my PF amount towards adjusting to LD clause by sending my signed copies of PF application forms.

Will check with the PF department and revert on your PF balance by a separate mail. Will also enclose the relevant forms for withdrawal. PF Settlement cannot be adjusted with your Final settlement.

    8) In the email sent by you, It was mentioned as "Rupees One lakh twenty thousand and rupees only" towards payment for LD clause and in digits, it was mentioned as "Rs. 420000/-". Please, let me know the correct amount to be paid towards LD Clause?

As informed to you earlier, the amount to be paid towards onsite bond is Rs.4.2L only.

Hope I have clarified to all your queries. Please be in direct touch with me for any further clarifications.

    With Warm Regards
    Ravishankar T

My new employer is not ready to give 2 months of time. Its totally irrelevant. And now i am total confusion on what to do??? They are literally harassing even when we leave. Yes, I also wish we all victims of wipro separation shud file a case and save our frens.

Let me know what to do in case they are saying complete the notice period of 2 months and pay the whole 420000 amount. But i know that even after completing the full notice period they will not give exp letter or even relieving letter, so what should i do now, can i just leave saying my exact last date or complete 10 more days to finish 2 month notice period.

Guys dont pay one single penny to the Wipro, they cant come after you in US and they'll loose the battle here so dont worry. Now if you need experience letter just for the GC purpose then I'll tell you that, you dont need a letter from company. There is a format that USCIS follows that you can get from your GC Attorney and once you get ask your any colleague to sign in. Dont worry about it and just leave... you'll be fine

  84. Amazing to see this post where people are criticizing separation process from a company when one is at onsite.
I for one can never consider it ethical to dump a company while still posted at onsite. It amounts to using the company as means to take a job in US when you were not capable of doing it on your own (filing H1 on own and going through the consultant thing)
Onsite for all employers requires slogging. There's no two questions about it. Why complain about something that is already known.
Sorry to say, but I felt sick going through some of the posts.

  85. We have a team of wipro consultants at my office.
Thye got the project coz their bid was the lowest and comparing with other vendors wipro's bid costs half.
Now i am witnessing how the project manager and delivery manger is treating their subordinates. It is like slave and master. Their project milestones are unrealistic and unacheivable. Both managers expect their staff to work 18hrs a day and weekend. These managers attitude towards their collegues are like slave and master. They abuse & shout at them.

In our company none of the managers shout or abuse their collegues. Our managers always discuss and try to understand the reasons and problems. No unnecessary pressure put on to subordinates. I think Indian managers are required to learn how to mange their collegues and needs to change their management style.

I would say that its a basic right of every one to work for someone you like. As I mentioned on my blog I worked so hard to meet on deadlines and I gave my 100% to get good projects to the company but when things started falling apart and I needed help from the people (managers) I worked with, nobody came forward and every body started pointing to someone else and that lead me to the point that I should leave the company and then I went through the bad experience... guy I dont care what you think of mine or my blog but believe me whether you are loyal or not, whether you worked for 1 year or 10 years nothing matters to Wipro, you'll go through with similar pain....

Yes, officially in Wipro, you need to give 2 months of notice. To complete the exit formalities you dont need to go to the Wipro office it happens on the TedWeb and if you are lucky and your manager is good everything will go smoothly. But my best bet is to provide proper KT and take a mail in written from that guy that he is comfortable and he can work without your help and thats the key.

Dear, I can just say that its not worth to give your hard earned money for the sake of a piece of paper. If you really want it then make your case strong like give KT and take everything in written from the other person and tell HR that you have done your best to save the project, also ask them what do they mean by Liquidity Damage? to my understanding it means that, project is going to suffer and so the client .... but if you have already made arrangements for the project and nothing serious is gonna happen if you leave then there is no Liquidity Damage, tell them you can pull Wipro in court if they humiliate you by not giving the letter. Also talk to your supervisor and make him realize that you have done a wonderful work so far and you never know if you get a chance to work with him again so for this you don't want to go out with the hard feelings ... I mean do something like this.

Also I have mentioned it many times in my post that they can't run behind you for the LD money and if they are not giving the experience letter even after you give LD to them then buddy its better you don't give it

  100. @sad Wiproit September 24, 2011 2:15 PM

buddy, wipro, infosys, TCS are like sea you have no identity if you are in these companies and you are not visible any time, if you are expecting a hike based on your individual performance then better you join a small company. There is no round way to get bigger hike in such companies....

It doesn't matter whether you leave wipro at US or Europe ... well frankly speaking they can not go after you anywhere, its just a scaring technique ... if they go to court they are the one who will loose. If they start bothering you just tell them that you can file a harassment report against them because they want your hard earned money as LD even though you made a big profit to them while working at onsite.

  110. Hi Anant/Buddies,
I have quit Wipro couple of months back.
I tried to negotiate with the onsite account manager that if they give me clean exit with relieving order and experience letter, I will give a decent notice period to leave the project in better shape. BTW I was onsite Architect. They refused to do that.
I quit without proper notice(given 1 week notice)
I repeatedly pinged them to give me experiece letter and relieving order even after joining the next company(My GC was not filed). I haven't signed any legal bond. When I had a discussion with HR before leaving, she told that even when I haven't signed the legal bond, electronically signing the bond(I didn't remember if I had done that) bind me to pay $10000.
Now I need experience letter. When I send repeated mail to them, they came back with a mail asking me to pay Rs. 3,60,000 for getting experience letter and relieving letter(after deducting my Gratuity). Is it legal to with hold gratuity for this reason? I know they can't touch my PF.
I already have two co-workers' affidavit while leaving Wipro.
I was Architect and they were some what junior testers in the same client and project. Will that be a problem for GC?
Another question is, can I threaten them that since I haven't signed any legal bond, if they are not releasing experience letter/relieving order I will sue them. Will that help to get experiece letter?
I have already indicated this in milder form to them.
BTW I have joined their competitor company(one who snatched 3rd position from them) in USA which is much better in employee friendliness.

    Appreciate your response.

how will be the training there someone told " If you are trained in wipro that will add good weightage to your resume, the training will be good, but dont expect salary hike"

should i join Wipro? or reject the offer made to me ?

or work for 15 months and then resign?

Yes I filed GC but I had all my Experience Letters including Wipro, as I said I had a big fight but I ultimately got the clean exit. But you dont need the Experience letter on the Company's letter head. When I was talking to my attorney she sent me a format and asked me to fill it up and get signed with the colleague in case if I dont have any experience letter, so I know for sure that you dont need a company Experience letter if you want to file GC.

  114. HI Ex-wiproites,
I am wrking for Wipro and am based on-site. My question is whether Wipro will ask for 10000 USD even after giving 2 months notice? Is that legal? My deputation letter does not mention anything about the amount. It only says that we should give 2 months notice in case of on-site resignation.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Anonymous @ August 25, 2011 8:48 AM

Fuck you, you fucking pretentious bastard. You think it is okay for a company to treat us like shit just because we are on-site. Point is when employees come onsite they realise that they worth much more in the market than what wipro projects. Maybe, you are one of these shitty wipro managers who thinks employees are bonded labourers. Fucking lying piece of garbage.

You blood idiot, Wipro is not doing employees a favour by sending them on-site. It makes business sense to send them on-site and that is why they are on-site.

Horrible fucking management. Un-ethical practices. Do you know there is an OOC department in Wipro known as "Dummy FTR". The salaries they project in deputation letters are very different from what they show to immigration authorities in North America.

  116. Guys please don't use the abusive language here, I know there is an anger inside but abusing here does not make any sense... if you really have to then just do it face to face to these managers... I hope everybody understands this.

  117. Guys please see things in a perspective, never abuse a company which has provided you the stepping stone. If you outgrown and have decided to quit, be grateful to Wipro and exit.

Every company is different and have a varied business strategy. Wipro is no different and wants to retain there investement done at onsite

Worst you all knew about the onsite deputation conditions before we came here, so there is no point crying wolf.

If you really have guts fulfill the depuatation conditions, quit at offshore and come to US on your own terms

  118. @ Vinod December 4, 2011 6:00 PM

I dont know what should I say to you, you are talking like a loyal HR of Wipro ... comon, dont say that Wipro gave you the stepping stone. Its not something they gave just because they love you so much. You have guts and have capability to face client that's why they send you. Now when you talk about investment, what do you mean by that? Do they give you free accommodation? free food? free car? .. tell me what you get free? NOTHING .. you get salary for what you work. You even work overtime and hard and you dont even get bonus. And for first 4-5 day when you stay in hotel they reimburse things BUT its not Wipro's money its client's.

Now talk about onsite deputation, do you know WIPRO provides onsite deputation letter just a day before you are leaving.... even if you have not signed any letter they mark it as signed document because they delivered to your email and you left the country. They dont even give you the time to read and ask questions.

Now, again I dont understand from where you got this word "GUTS" for this situation, I would say either you are a loyal employee who wants to work for a company forever or you have never had any onsite opportunity. Dont take me wrong but I'm having such feel for you.

Another thing, tell me if someday Wipro has to fire you or lay you off, how much notice will they provide? or just take an example your behavior is not good and wipro wants to fire you will they give you 3 months and $10000 because they did your liquidity damage? simple answer NO ... so why this time? Wipro's behavior is not good and you fired Wipro ;)

Also, as I mentioned in my blog, they make 3 times of money than what you are getting while you are at onsite so... they made profit using your capabilities and knowledge.

Come to the real world Mr. Vinod. I just wish and hope that you should never get this pain... actually nobody.

can you give the attorney's contact no who handled your case becoz I am in the same situation .Wipro asking 10k and not giving release letter or experience letter.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Hi Anant,
This is an excellent blog. Appreciate your help to fellow colleagues.
I quit Wipro 5 months back. Did not sign any physical bond. Did not get experience letter/relieving letter. But luckily no legal notice just refused of experience letter.

I have read in Murthy's blog that without having experience letter is a risk in GC.

    My Qs:
    1. Wipro argues that even without signing physcial bond, I am bound by the electronic bond. Is the argument valid? or can I fight for letters?

    2. I got notarized affidavit from 3 of my ex-wipro colleagues in a specified format. Is it enough for GC? or should I pay around Rs 4 lacs they demand and get experience letter?

    Looking forward for you answer.

  125. @DVK (December 23, 2011 9:25 AM)

Well if you are going onsite then your clock is reset.

    @ December 23, 2011 2:01 PM
Dear, I never used any attorney. Its just a scaring tactics so dont worry about the $10k, they wont do anything.

    @ Kumar
Hey, I'm glad you didn't receive any LD letter. Well as per the GC concern, you dont even need any notarized letter. When you GC will start your Attorney will give you a format, so don't use anything by yourself. Follow that format and they will guide you how should you get it signed by your colleagues.

Now for the Wipro's argument for the bond is ridiculous but thats how they deal, You must have got some documents and the salary structure from OOC when you arrived to US and according to OOC if its dropped to your mail box means its accepted. Well they have no base in this and if you go to court they are the one who loose so dont worry about that.

"Further, the Employee acknowledges and agrees that post completion of Deputation, the employee commits
to return to India and serve the Company for a minimum period of six months("Committed Service Period")
from the date of his / her return to India after completion of the overseas deputation, for the purposes of
imparting amongst other employees of Wipro, the specialized knowledge, skills, training and experience
gained during Deputation. However, the tenure of six months can be served at either location (overseas or

However, they have sent a legal notice(after sending some reminders on Wipro letterhead) from a law firm, for paying this amount or else a civil/criminal case would be filed against me.

Pls. let me know ur views on it and any other suggestions is highly appreciated.

Please note that as you are an assignee from India, your notice period duration is 2 months. Also, you are bound by the service bond (INR 4.2 Lakhs or 6 months service at onsite or offshore). As per your resignation date, your notice period id valid till 16th February 2012. If you leave before that date, recovery of notice period and service bond will be made on a prorate basis from your F&F settlement.

I'm really sorry to hear about the letter you received. Honestly speaking, I'm not a lawyer or attorney and I can not advise you for such letter. This is an entirely new thing to me that I never heard of before. They didn't send any such letter through lawyer before. I would encourage you to take a help from some law firm and explain the whole situation. Most of the good law firm dont take the case if they see that they can not do anything for you. Also, they wont charge you if they loose the case, they just take some minimal registration fee. There is such law firm in Philadelphia, Lundy Law (www.lundylaw.com), I'm sure you can find something similar in your location or call them and see if they have any firm in your location.

Believe me, more I read comments in my blog more I hate wipro. because we all have given good things to wipro and made it profitable but we are getting just pain at the end.

Dear Akshay, I wish you a good luck and hope that things will be alright with you. Wish you a Very Happy new Year.

Even thought they say over phone, they cant write in the email However, HR is asking me to pay Rs. 4,20,000 for experience and releiving letter. Its close to 6 months now. I talked to my manager for sign based letter but they say its against Wipro policy and hence we cant provide signed letter. however he can provide a reference. Dear,

If your managers told you that time that its a clean exit then it means you left company with good notes with managers. Now don't ask any signed letter, send mail to him and cc HR and ask him that "I gave proper KT and project had no issue after you left and you (your manager)told me that its a clean exit, I would really appreciate if you convey this to HR so that I can get my Experience letter and HR an waive off LD charge". I think you should compose mail something like this and talk to your manager on the phone and ask him to approve it.

This kind of mail is official and its under wipro's policy.

    Regards,
    Anant

  136. Thanks Ananth for actively providing your suggestions! I have tried sending emails to HR and CC my managers. I heard from my managers that they have sent email internally that my case is a clean exit but they cant cc me on it. Still HR is trying to make me nightmare. I have a resignation date email, Wipro accepted email, KT provided email, my manager acknoledgement emails on it, Client formal send off email etc. Can I go file a case against Wipro with all these proof? Do you know how much it costs? I already checked with one famous lawyer firm here and if I provide above details, they said they can make sure I win and he accept fees only if he makes me win. I am sure Wipro will have to pay the fees of laywer if I win right?

I agree with your managers that they can not cc you on your private email officially, but if he is saying that he sent such mail to HR then it should be in his Outlook Sent folder. Ask him to forward that mail so that you can talk to HR based on that and this will help you to prepare your case against Wipro.

  139. Hi Anant,

Awesome blog, Got to know many stuff @ clean exit from Wipro.
I have been interviewed for Bangalore location and got selected for Linux domain, later on I got to hear that they have proposed my candidature for onsite opportunity and they are working on papers. Initially, I said BIG NO for an onsite opportunity and I told them that I am happy with Bangalore Location reading your blogs.
After 02 days, my friend Sudip told me that even he got a onsite opportunity @ Wipro in storage domain and as per the discussion it seems to be same project, which they have discussed with me.
It would be great if you could help me out to get an answer for some queries regarding onsite opportunity for me and my friend Sudip.

    1. Sudip has been offered with two salary one is Indian CTC and the other one is onsite CTC with free accommodation, pick & drop facility from home-office, insurance, 1 time travel to India in Wipro cost. Can we negotiate on onsite CTC as well or it’s fixed as per the Wipro band.

    2. Is it possible that the candidate will be given an opportunity to go onsite directly? Is there is any hidden contract or bond.

    3. What contract does the candidate need to sign?

    4. How many leaves do Wipro provide during onsite engagement.

    Waiting for your response.

Hey, when did Sudip got the offer? because this is something new to me!! I heard recently (2009) Wipro stopped reimbursement to 1 time india travel. Second Free pickup-drop facility??? thats awesome if they are really providing in US. Also, how is your friend able to get two salaries? I've never heard of this before. In Wipro they give Onsite salary with deputation letter. So far I never heard that Wipro gave anybody a direct onsite opportunity... Now for contract, yes its always there its all hidden but applies to all employees goes to onsite from india. For leave I dont exactly remember how many leaves but let me tell you its hard to get a leave when you are at onsite.

  140. Hi Anant,

I quitted wipro 6 months back. Gave notice of 3 weeks.
My manager had no issue of releasing me in 3 weeks. I have the release letter from my manager. I completed the KT properly.
But my HR said I won't be getting clean exit even through I pay the LD amount. Which means in taht case I will only get the relieving letter not experience letter.
I don't know how to deal with this situation.
My question - is experience letter required in India to get a job?

Any comments/suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thanks for informing so many good things.

Since quite few time I am in Wipro but not very clear on the Wipro policy.

I returned India from long term onsite assignment. After 4 month of return, I got another project in Australia onsite location. This time it is for 2 month only. Once my latest assignment will over, this would be my last LD month (6 months) also.
If I ask for a separation from Wipro,

    1) What is the notice period at Australia onsite?
    2) If I pay for the LD, do I need to serve the notice period?
    3) Do the long term policy will be applicable for me even though I am traveling in less than 90 days and my 6 months is already
over since my last return after long term onsite stay?

Please suggest as it is very urgent.

  145. Hi Anant,

A very good blog and compilation of useful information on how to tackle this mongrels who are bent on torturing the employees who work their S out for them. My experience is not quite different from others mentioned in the comments, but peculiar in the fact that they are asking for negative full and final settlement 5.5 yrs after i left them. I resigned from Wipro in Pune in Sep 2006 and then the HR and my manager then provided me the relieving letter and experience letter. The contingency loan, the finance said, they would deduct in the final salary which they did and as a result I didnt get any net pay for Aug 2006 and Sep 1 was my last day. They didnt update the SAP for the loan deduction. Few weeks back when I sent them application for PF settlement, they are asking me to clear the dues first and then they would provide the pf clearence. One thing that I find it peculiar is they provided me all the exit documents and later they are asking for dues to be cleared. From what I understand, no company would provide exit documents if there is an amount that needs recovery from the employee.

When I asked for August salary slip for 2006, they even went to the low of modifying the salary slip indicating the loan wasnt deducted. Now they are asking me to pay the amount to get my PF clearence. I obviously have decided not to pay as i have all the relevant experience and relieving letters, the bank statements show that Aug 2006 salary wasnt credited.

Can you guide me here so as to what I can do to avoid paying this amount which is totally wrong on their part to ask me to pay?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

    Thank You

    1. Hi Sam,

I'm really sorry to hear this, but I think your case is different than us and strong because you got your Experience Letter and reliving letter. Now as you mentioned that they have not paid you Aug 2006 salary, and for which you have proof which is damn solid thats your bank statement and your relieving letter. Now just send them this information with proof and tell them to release your PF. Frankly speaking they have no rights to hold your PF for such long. And even after giving all the evidence If they push it hard on you then I would suggest to go to court and file a case against them. I'me sure 1 legal notice will bring them down.

  149. Hi Anant,

    Good day, really good discussion....

I'm also an ex-wiproite, worked for ~ 4 years in both BPO & Technology divisions. I started with Wipro BPO in Sept 2007 at Pune location and took a transfer to Technology in Mar 2010 and been deputed to Singapore.I was assigned to the project for 8 months, however continued till July 2011 and hence more than a year. After that as usual there was no scope for billing due to client restrictions and immediately my manager asked me to go back and even worst there was no clarity abt my future roles in Wipro Technologies...Infact my program manager once even asked me to go back to BPO as client side was quite concerned abt me leaving the account, they don't care me being a part of BPO or technology.....and ofcvourse I was not willing to go back to BPO again due to the above said reasons, no future, learning and above all stupid management... I was lucky to get a contract role in Singapore and now it's almost 10 months me with new job. I'm not sure how long I'll be in Singapore being on a contract role and the concern is now getting the experience and releiving letter once I'm back to India. Wipro management ( HR/ TED/ Vividus) have been sending me mails regularly re the breach of contract and infact sent couple of letters to my homeaddress also saying legal action will be taken unless the payment of bond amount ~ Rs.4 lakhs is made.

Recently I checked with them re my experience letter and received a response from them again insisting on the payement, but reduced the amount to 3.25 lakhs.

Currently I have only the autogenerated mail from Wipro saying my resignation accepted and also mnetioning my last date.

My query is will this be sufficient to show as a proof for future reference or does these original letters from Wipro really matters?

I'm really concerned abt paying 3+ lakhs to Wipro as I prefer to work in some other field as a fresher and would like to donate this amount to some NGO rather than feeding this cowards.

    Thanks,

Well, I will be putting down papers in couple of days from now (once I get the receipt number for my H1-B transfer). I have couple of points that I would request you to help me with.
    1. Currently, I am the only person working from onsite. Also, there is only one offshore person in the team. So does providing KT to that person would be sufficient.
    2. Wipro is bidding for a new project with our current client and probably would want to stop me from moving out at any cost, atleast until the new project deal is signed. How should I deal with this situation.
    3. And ofcourse, like all others people I can only serve 2 weeks of notice period.

    Your suggestions are sincerely appreciated.

    Thanks.

    1. Hello,
      1. One person at offshore - It all depends upon how your manager takes it. If he is ok, you are cool. If he asks you to give KT, then ask him to pull in a person at onshore for you to give KT. It also depends on how critical your role was in the 1 person onshore team. (FYI, I was also a one person onshore , but I gave KT to another person who was already at onshore). If your position was projected for the forecast to the clients in SOW, then your manager has to find a replacement to fill in.

      2. Want to stop you from moving - Don't even worry about it. Stay firm in your decision and never get into the negotiation mode with your manager so they can offer you carrots to stay with them. Like I said before, making a decision to move over in career is your thing, replacing you to make sure the service you were offering as Wipro to the client runs smooth when people are moving out of the company is your managers problem.

      3. 2 week notice - That will suffice provided you don't care for Exp letter. If you want your exp letter, I am afraid 2 weeks won't help in normal cases unless your manager is with your side. He can negotiate with HR and get you a clean exit with 2 weeks.

  155. hi,
Iam working in wipro from past 1 year and still in free pool. Will i get the experience letter if i resign now?

    ReplyDelete
  156. If you are H1/GC and willing to leave Wipro - just leave as early as possible. They are smart and normally do not block last month US pay and they will even cash for unused vacation/leave. They do everything as per labor department and US law. However, they will play with India component like PF, Gratuity etc. Do'nt worry for experience letter - your supervisor or any other person can issue an experience letter..you can even have your own experience letter with notary.

Be smart to get PF statement including PF number. You can withdraw PF by passing Wipro..google about it.
I am thinking to file a law suit regarding their harrassement...they have dual policy for Indian hire and US hire..that itself is against equal opportunuty law. Raise your grievence with PF department...let all the foreign embassies know about injustice. I am also planning to write to Presidant of India and Ministry of Social Justice to recommend withdrawl of Padma Bhusan award for Mr Premji..atleast I will file a RTI what basis he got Padma Bhusan.he is not a clean business man as people think.he is still with Sun Flower Oil business mentality...he has no respect for the employees. Personally I would like to hang all Wipro HR personal..they talk like typical passport office personal...they have dusturbed me a lot..I will pray for their early demise. I may sound odd...but that is the frustration.. even after serving the company for 6 years and giving lot of business for the company...the company does not treat the employee well. let me tell you - this company has no ethics..they perform visa fraud, tax evasion using SEZ, manuplates financial results seeing TCS & Infy. If some of you can share a good attorney..please let me know.

  157. Hello Anant,

I am planning to resign from Wipro onsite in 1-2 weeks time. I am going to give 4 weeks notice but I think they will still not give me a clean exit as I will not serve the total 2 months notice period. I can give the KT in 1 weeks time as our project has more team members and everyone knows what is going on. My question is about loss of billing. If my manager says he can't release me in 4 weeks as they will have loss of billing what do I say to that??

Please let me know how to deal with them. By the way, my horizontal manager just got changed and the new guy always makes a big deal on resignation even in India. Please help me.

    Thanks.

    1. Hello,
I recently separated from Wipro Onsite with clean exit, in terms of your question, billing should be the least for you to worry. It is your manager's problem. From my experience, if you have transitioned to a replacement resource and have a KT plan updated and approved you should be good. Try to play the game politely, when your manager is asking that because of you leaving, the billing is going to be impacted, just say " that is where I want you to help me!!" .. Being rude and showing the attitude with your manager is not going to help. If you want a clean exit, you need your immediate managers help. Your manager is the only person who can negotiate with HR to write off your 4.2l service bond and make your exit clean. Play smart.

      God Bless.!

First of all congratulation that you got selected in the campus, Welcome to the IT world :).

Well here is the thing, when you are fresher your first aim is to get experience and Wipro and Infy will give you that platform. You'll meet alot of knowledgeable people and will get training and projects. As I said before that as a fresher dont think of all these things and to me Wipro, Infy , TCS they are all same. And these are not the only companies whic have bad culture there are more and just today I saw the news about L&T which is pathetic. Culture will always be the same and you may not like it sometime but again its time to earn knowledge for you so use it and move forward. But my suggestion is that dont keep eny good expectations with these companies and prepare yourself for the worst.

Here is the news for L&T - http://profit.ndtv.com/News/Article/l-t-infotech-employees-allege-sexual-discrimination-visa-fraud-in-us-301349?pfrom=home-otherstories

See everyone has a different opinion on how they want to start and pursue the career. What I found in my career is the companies that are small gives you more opportunities to do new things and appreciates you and your work, you also become visible in the company but in most cases the learning process has to be the self study, small companies (most of the time) dont provide these benefits. And if you ask me, what would I do do if I were you then I would have joined a small company and that's what I did. But since your dilemma is to join Wipro or Infy for its benefits then its really a good question. By the way I guess Infy also provide opportunity to do sponsored MBA (not sure but it should) and Wipro has huge training facility so you should be ok in any company. As per my suggestion the first thing you should do is, ask Infy HR if they sponsor MBA, if the do then which University? then ask Wipro & Infy HR both, that do you need to sign a bond? if yes then what are the terms. Once you have these answers you can judge by yourself which place is good but if you still have any doubt you can discus with me again. I hope it helps :)

  159. Hi,
since I was in free pool for such long time which was their mistake only not assigning me any project,is there any chance of not giving experience, relieving letter or even if they give will it contain some negative comments?please reply soon

  160. @Akshay did you get legal notice in US?

Has anyone received legal notice in US? Dont think they can send legal notices in US and/or they do it.

  161. I left Wipro without experience letter. I gave around 5 weeks notice and all my vacation days but they told me that even if I give $10K it will not be a clean exit. I had my 4 years in Wipro. I need experience letter. I know by reading in various forums that I can get it from supervisors or colleagues. My colleagues are in India and I am not sure how they will give it. They are not authorized to use company's letter head. In US it is OK and easy to get it notarized. But in India what to do? Do I need to get affidavit from colleague on a stamp paper? If yes, then how much money should I put in stamp paper? Is it OK to get it on his personal letter head? My attorney says I can get it on their personal letter head. Not sure though. In company like Wipro, we work for so many different projects. There is no common colleague who worked with me in all the projects. Then what to do? Should I get it from multiple colleagues?

You don't need any stamped paper or any company letterhead. Follow what your attorney says.

In India you can ask your friend to buy INR 20 stamp paper, type the contents on it and get notarized by a notary...Co-worker affidavit is sufficient for GC processing. The key is to indicate the skills that you highlight for your LC and not many Indian companies have skills in the relieving or experience letter. This anyway you will need co-worker affidavit which highlights the skills/tools et al.

Get co-worker affidavit from colleagues of bigger duration projects.

  163. Guys, I had been with Wipro since 2005 and quit a few months back at onsite. Believe me it was a great pain and lots of frustration after I put down my papers. I had to talk to 4 Indian managers just to get released and then 2 HR persons. I gave 2 weeks of notice which ended up as 4 weeks due to requests from my client, managers. I provided all the necessary KT to the client and even now I provide KT over phone to the replacement (I know this is not necessary but still). The day before my last day, I had a talk with the HR manager and he was very arrogant and responded very rashly. It went into an argument mode and we exchanged some harsh emails. The exit interview denoted that my exit was a clean one but still they asked me to pay the bond amount. For GC, it is sufficient if you have a letter from your previous supervisors / colleagues. Ask them for - breakdown of liquidated damages and they would hesitate on that. Read the agreement carefully, it is mentioned that it all depends on your reporting manager whether you need to serve the notice period at onsite or offshore. If you had asked your manager for a release from the current project and he did not, then it would another plus for you. Talk to an attorney (I am going to do this next week) and file a complaint with USCIS, DOL. Remember they cannot hold your US pay and this is for sure. Plan properly and talk to your reporting manager and HR. Good Luck

  164. Hay guys,

Mine is a strange situation. Recently I left WIPRO from onsite and facing same issue. I didnt signed any bond in India but eventually signed and send it to India office after reaching US. My deputation letter was generated after reaching to US. Appreciate if any one of you can suggest if the letter still valid for WIPRO to demand liquidated damages.

    2. Hi All,

It was same with me. I didn't sign any contract/bond in India. After coming to US, they sent me the deputation letter in email and it said that my salary will not be paid till I sign the letter and send it to the India office. Can someone please explain how I can use this to negotiate for clean exit?

      Thanks.

  165. If you received an email from them to sign the deputation letter after you reached US then I believe it would not be applicable...they would have sent you an email that if you dont sign it then they would hold you salary right...that email should be enough to state that they forcefully made you sign the agreement...try to talk to them ....and mention this point...

  166. I have a question here....Can the company have policies which discriminate employees who come from India? What I mean to say is according to EEOC and Immigration and Nationality act...discrimination based on nationality with respect to terms and conditions of the employment is not valid...please see below URLs...

  168. Hi Anant

I quit Wipro sometime back at onsite and gave them 3 weeks notice.. I am now trying to process my GC with the new firm and as everybody else on this forum have had the following experience:
    1. acceptance of resignation email. No relieving certificate and experience letter was provided.
    2. my last payslip though was generated was completely deducted against the initial advance provided (2500$)
    3. about 2 months post resignation, I got an email and a letter to my india residence stating that I owe them 420000 INR and it must be transferred in a weeks time.

Now here's my question: During my tenure at onsite, I kept getting emails stating that I have to return signed copies of my deputation letter else my payment will stop. I sent it once.I think they may not have updated it in their system because inspite of sending it I kept getting mails. Some days later, They generated a new set of deputation letter and sent a reminder and I never signed and sent it. I know there is talk about electronic signature and all that but it may/may not be valid, right? So, in this case, is the deputation letter still valid?

  169. I resigned from Wipro Infotech in March-2012 after 3 Years duration at more than six different projects/clients. I had to provide 2 months notice period and separation process was very painful. Most of the managers/Supervisors at Wipro are very rude and shameless people. There is lots of politics inside organization.

My Advice: Stay away from Wipro and Join any small IT company or start your own business like me.

After leaving Wipro and starting my own business, I am earning double than my Wipro salary.

  170. Recently I quit wipro from onsite giving 2 weeks notice period. The HR is not ready to give a clean exit even though I am ready to pay the LD. They are asking me to stay for 2 months. Bull shit company. HR is very rude and unprofessional. My managers talks also bullshit. Initially, I had an idea to stay in Wipro if they give a good package, but after talking to HR/my manager, when if they give 100% hike, I won't stay here.
